President Stewart reacts to Mayor's comments on
grade-changing at some Chicago Public Schools
|
"The teachers are not the problem; they are the victims. Last year, when the CTU surveyed our members about grade-changing, the results showed the pressure on them to change grades came from their superiors. The Mayor and the district need to stop blaming teachers for the misconduct of others. It is time for the district to investigate these allegations and to hold responsible those who are behind the misdeeds."

President Stewart wants more funds for schools

|
CTU President Marilyn Stewart spoke by phone on February 26 with Governor Pat Quinn to pledge her support for a state income tax increase to provide more funds for Illinois’ public schools, including those in Chicago. She also met with the Governor, along with other labor leaders, on March 1 and reiterated her position.
According to President Stewart, “Illinois has been negligent in its financial support for our public schools for too long. It’s time for legislators in Springfield to generate more revenue so our public schools can provide the type of quality education that the children of our state deserve.”
President Stewart said she will be lobbying legislators in the weeks ahead to encourage them to take action on an income tax increase during the current legislative session. |
