Huberman to Step Down
CEO Huberman To Step Down November 29th
President Lewis advocates for educator, not MBA to fill CEO's shoes

After weeks of speculation, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ron Huberman announced that he's calling it quits at the end of the month.
CPS spokeswoman Monique Bond said in a written statement that Huberman "has privately expressed his interest not to serve another administration and said he wants to spend more time with his family before beginning a new career endeavor."
The top executive position in the CPS has been a "CEO" appointed by the Mayor of Chicago since the passage of the "Amendatory Act" of 1995 which gave the Mayor total contol over the schools. The CEO designation allows the Mayor to appoint anyone to that position, regardless of education credentials, as opposed to a "superintendent" who is required to attain certification. Huberman has no education experience or certification and it would in fact be illegal for him to evaluate a teacher.
"I think it would be an interesting experience for the people, and most of all the students of Chicago, to have someone with an education background running the schools of Chicago," said President Lewis to WBBM.
