Rahm's Money and Clout Used to Buy Anti-Public Worker Ads

From Early and Often:

[Mayoral Candiate Rahm] Emanuel, whose campaign has raised about $12 million and has bought air time for almost three months, has spent as much as $700,000 to broadcast a string of commercials on free and cable stations.

Much of these funds came from Big Business and Hollywood which creates a challenge for other contenders who rely on donations from labor unions and other donors within the city and state.

From Chicago Sun-Times:

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange gave Emanuel $200,000... He also took in $100,000 apiece from wealthy Chicago businessmen James Crown and Fred Eychaner, plus another $100,000 from Hollywood mogul David Geffen, $75,000 from film director Steven Spielberg and $50,000 from Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

The next mayor of Chicago will have quite a challenge ahead with education, crime, and inheriting the massive privatization left in Mayor Daley's wake. Residents of Chicago have to think deeply about how those issues will be dealt with by the next mayor and whose interest he or she will truly serve.
